North America Guitar Tour

Dallas

July 2-3, 2014

According to the navigation system, it takes just under three hours to get from Georgetown to Dallas. I had told Eric who I am staying with that night, I would arrive by evening, so I had plenty of time. I worked hard on my translation in a rest area with Wi-Fi. At this point, I was already close to the deadline, and considering my future plans, I was bound to be late. Life isn't all good.

Speaking of Dallas, it's the city where President Kennedy was assassinated more than half a century ago. Since I was thinking about translating, I couldn't take a detour, so I followed the navigation system directly to Eric's house, and intended translating at a Starbucks nearby, but when I saw downtown Dallas, I had already gotten off the freeway. The video below is from that exact moment. I should have gone left. I tried to go back immediately, but the navigation system told me that the entrance to the freeway was closed for that day. I think I lost an hour looking for another entrance.

Because of this loss, I gave up on translating and headed straight to Eric's house. When I arrived at the address I was given, it was a building that looked like an apartment complex or a housing complex in Japan. There were several buildings, and it took a little time to find the one where Eric lived. After carrying my luggage to the room and chatting for a while, we decided to go to the open mic venue with Eric's car. And Eric's car was the Lincoln Continental that I first wanted to drive. I forgot the year, but it was a large car in the Japanese style of 6000cc class, a famous car that built an era as a luxury car on par with Cadillac. I thought I should have bought it even if it was a bit of over budget, but soon the temperature inside the car rose and I was told to open the window. The air conditioner sometimes stops working. Next, the part on the window frame that stores the driver's seat belt fell out. I felt that my choice of renting car that is bit small but runs well without trouble is okay.

However, we happened to passed by the road where President Kennedy was assassinated, so I achieved one of my goals. When we enter the shop, it was so dark that it looks like darkness at first glance, but if you look closely, you will see that it is quite spacious. There are only a few people who seem to be the performers of the day, so it is a familiar deserted place to me. However, since the purpose of the day was to play for Eric, I didn't mind this situation at all. However, I was still thinking about the translation, and I was disappointed that the performance itself was only moderately well done. I will have to come back for revenge.

We ate at home, so we probably went straight home after the performance, but I don't remember this part clearly. We had a few drinks, and Eric let me play his guitar, and the three of us, including his girlfriend, talked about various things until late at night. I started translating after Eric and his friends went to bed, but at this point it was clear that I would not be able to meet the deadline. Although I was thinking about the possibility that I would not receive any more work in the future, I did my best until my brain stop working.

The next morning, it had rained for the first time in a long time. I woke up to the sound of my girlfriend getting ready for work, said goodbye to her, and had breakfast with Eric, who was working from home. After our usual hot and lively farewell, I headed for the next destination, Houston. The navigation system said it would take just under four hours, but Houston is the second largest city in the United States. I had to prepare for some traffic jams.
