North America Guitar Tour To Texas June 29-30, 2014 In Texas, I had plans to visit four places: San Antonio, Georgetown, Dallas, and Houston. If I were coming from the north, I would visit Dallas, Georgetown, San Antonio, and Houston in that order, so I wouldn't have to go back and forth. However, the best day for Ramiro in San Antonio was June 30, so I went to the southernmost point first, then headed north, and finally headed south again. This kind of flexibility is something that only solo travelers can offer. I left Oklahoma City in the middle of the night and headed south, stopping at several rest areas to rest, when at one of the rest areas I received a translation request that I hadn't received in a long time. Since I had spent most of my time just traveling, I should have refused it if I had thought about it rationally, but I gave in to the desire to make up for the time I had spent on this trip, so I accepted it. I had never refused a job before, so I couldn't refuse it. I knew I couldn't fight on an empty stomach, and was tempted by some photos of food on Facebook, so I got off the freeway in Austin in the afternoon and went to a Japanese restaurant I found on the internet called "Kome." The food was a subtle mix of Japanese and Western, but I was happy to be free from the brown-based food that had been served in the wilderness until then. At first, I was optimistic about translation job and thought I'd do a little at a time at the rest area, but by the time I got to the rest area, I was usually tired and didn't make any progress. Fortunately, I arrived in San Antonio, my destination for the day, a little earlier than planned, so after checking where the house was, I stuck around at a nearby Starbucks until the last minute. At this point, I was already beginning to regret having accepted the offer. *The people mentioned in this article are listed by their initials until I could confirm their identity. |
